Merci beaucoup pour les encouragements Bruno!,
Yes, it's a strange "contraption" and I try to build it as much as the real thing. I sometimes forget that it was build in ten days! It looks a bit like he used the same idea as the FG 1 and made the nacelle, to get les drag obviously, as a kind of bow or dome tent ( the first one??).
It is informative to look at the first photo of this story to see how this glider was transported , in parts, on a small truck
Amicalement,
Vincent. |

Bonjour a tous,
A couple of weeks ago I discovered at "The alte news" that in the WWI fokker a tear shaped tube was used
So I like to replace the wooden diagonal struts into metal ones and I tried to make it from 6mm X 0.5 mm tube, covered with 0.6 ply. First I soaked the ply with boiling water, gradually folding it around the tube
After a couple of days it was nicely in shape.
Covered the clamping battens with tape
, needed some washing pegs to keep the very slippery battens in their position, put thick cyano on it and pressed it together, just as before. Result when dry
I still want to pour in epoxy resin, so the ply can't come off!
Next the wing tip handles, this is very characteristic one the real thing!
From 4mm tube with steel cable to prevent buckling I bended two handles
and soldered verticals at it. Closed the open ends with pieces of mild steel, in one a M2,5 nut, which of course was filled up with solder....
At the same time I made wing skids from 3 layers 2mm spruce and sanded it in shape
Next was the bottom of the nacelle, I have only an idea how it was constructed. It looks more like a tent! I guessed he put a steel cable round the wing and a steel cable round the struts of the main skid
I can't make that with diacov, so I tried to make a thing on which I could glue the diacov. Between the struts I will try to put steel wire. Look at the photo's, I made three, now I hope got a good one.....
laminating;
Third attempt;
Hopefully it will look OK with diacov!
To be continued,
Vincent |

Bonjour a tous,
Already quite some time I wanted to make a try run putting the plane together. I only needed attachments for the struts between the wings.
From the same mild steel 0.7 mm plate I made a "U" shaped profile, on which I solderded a M4 nut. Of course the solder ran into the thread, but a tap solved the problem . After the wing is covered, I will put a short lenght of M4 in it (not throuh the spar) and glue in the nut. I don't want to weaken the 8mm spar with a 4mm hole.
I had the plan to solder the rigging gear at the struts, the struts itself go over the M4 bolt and secure it with a spring steel clip. Sometimes you are short of hands...
Now I could put it together
The wings aren't straight at the foto's, but that will be OK with the rigging installed.
To my big relief it felt quite rigid, I am still concerned if the wings can be warped after covering, hope they will!
Now I am slowly worrying how it will fly!
Vincent. |

Thank you Sebastian!
It is nice to figure out all the small things, it takes time, but it gives me a lot of satisfaction! At this moment we are guessing about the colour of the metal parts, with Hans Disma and the Fokker heritage, must it be khaki (more or less the standard colour), or grey (which the Fokker heritage found on other Fokkers). When looking at the black and white pictures I think, maybe it is grey....
Of course, when the painting is finished, the right colour will show up

Hello Harold,
Sorry for giving that impression! I needed a can for the shim in the rudder and when I need something for support or as a tool, I grab the first thing that I can use. It's always a but messy in my workplace
Thanks a lot for your comments!

Danke Christian et merci Christian pour les comments !!
I went on, it's a funny plane, an awful lot of small pieces, which all should fit, before it's getting painted, looks like not much progress and just not knowing what to do next, I did a lot of small things first.
In the wing is internal cross rigged, which I discovered on the photo of the Hans Disma collection, this is a close up:
I made a non functional rigging of quite weak stainles steel wire with plastic coating, from a jewellers shop,, one long wire with a spring to keep it straight.
I also made a trailing edge from 0.6 mm solid steel wire
I put a small metal plate at the end, to prevent it pulling through the wood. I also put a small extra stringer near the trailing edge, you can see it also on the Hans Disma photo.
Now the seats; on this picture there is a very small part of the seat visible, but a lot of the controls (coming up)
but on Alter News I found chairs which look like the standard Fokker seat.
From sheet aluminium (this time a shaving gel can, about 0.4mm thick) I cut and hammered two chairs. They will be covered with diacov later and get a cushion.
Because this plane has a very visible interior and not much instruments (just a sort of anemometer) I tried to make a neat steering stick. It is a big one (maybe the wing warping needs a lot of force?) A close up from the nacelle;
giving some ideas how to make one.
With springs I tried to keep the wiring straight and making it possible to move the stick.
Just in front of the rudder pedals I made a ply "bulkhead" to keep the ballast and battery compartment out of sight.
Just the wooden frame with controls and chairs;
An sideview from the interior, the warping servo is missing and the steering cables will be much more simple!
To be continued, Vincent |

Bonjour Dominique et Sebastian, merci beaucoup pour les comments!
Les sieges sont fait du'n bombe de "gel de rasage" c'est beaucoup plus epaisse que le materiel des cannettes de biere etc.
The idea using that, was in the book "Zen and the art of motorcycling maintenance" ,
I have alredy got the paint!

Bonjour a tous,
When looking at this of the supporting strut of the skid I was not content what I made, it was a bit thick and it was straight.
Maybe the struts are bended to give some springing, I don't know.
The tube which I had, was a bit too thick, so I took stainless steel wire (bicycle spoke) bended it, checked with the picture
and made the support. I also changed the attachment thing for the diacov under the wing
In the meantime I coloured the wooden parts with "teinte antiquaire"merisier combined with brown bister. Reinforced the skid with some split glass rovings and epoxy resin.
Prepared the hook for bungee start
After painting I'll bend the hook.
Yes painting, after consultation with Hans Disma and Arno van der Holst two colours could be possible, khaki or light grey. Luckily Hans got a RAL number (6014) for the khaki, and when looking at the black and white photo's the metal seem quite dark, so I opted for khaki, but it's a guess....
I have an old basic spray booth so I started..
A lot of small parts combined, still almost all the paint goes past it is messy and gives a lot of fumes despite the exhaust with a computor fan.
The result
All drying small and big parts
and the wooden parts.
After colouring the wing ribs a bit, the wings can be covered and then finally I can assemble the fuselage, I'll keep you informed!

Bonjour a tous,
I started with the covering of the wings, did a wash with bister ( a water based sort of paint) to get slightly darker ribs.
and bolted the metal "U" shaped things to attach the wing struts onto the spars
Then I started putting on the diacov, trying to do all the things I read about it on the forum.
The steel wire trailing edge didn't give much problems, thanks to the forum again and it became quite rigid. It looks like the wing was still flexible enough to get it warped sufficiently.
I also covered the central parts of the wing and now I could start with the fuselage, first attaching diacov at the wooden suport (instead of wire at the real thing)
Then I covered the nacelle tubes with diacov, bacause I think I can't reach a lot of places later.
Its a bit like a chinese puzzle....
The vertical struts are hold in place with 1mm steel clips thruogh holes in the M4 vertical bolts.
Now I first want to cover the remaining two wings, rigg it up and see if the warping will work, hope so...
to be continued,
Vincent.

Beste Vincent,
Bonne continuation.

This is a very short video of the wingwarping, a lot of wiring is temporary, so there is quite a lot of slop, will be better, but I think basically it's working

Bonjour a tous,
I started with covering the rudders and tailplane, looking again at "Alte news" for details used by Fokker
The diacov went on very nicely, especially round edges.
After finishing this I went for the nacelle, hoping for the best. First the rear upper part of the nacelle,
Put in the ballast (800 grams, painted white), so I hope it will be less visible, containing the battery pack. Then I could do the underside.
Now I could cover the topside of the nacelle
Now the rigging, I had a pair of pliers which came in useful!
some shrinking tube
I placed the clips at the struts , so I can dismantle it and it is less obtrusive (I hope).
detail of the rudderhorns
Suddenly it's looking quite complete
The wingwarping was tuned a bit and I made a short video
https://youtu.be/a8YtED_fWvY
When putting the plane vertical you get a nice view of the bottom.
I have a question; On the short films from the FG 2 and the foto's I get the impressing that there is no canvas at bottom, so I left it open. Besides that it is practical I can image that it was made that way, but maybe there is some other info!
Next is the internal fuselage rigging, the wingtip handles and skids and finishing the interior. Last but certainly not least the pilot and passenger.
To be continued,
Vincent
