Moving on to the wing. Given the choice of airfoil and the fact that the plywood is not varnished, I decided to sheet the top and bottom separately. First the bottom: I planed and sanded the LE into shape and repaired the vulnerable ribs here and there. To provide support for the glue clamps, I glued a 2x2 mm slat to the front of the ply .




I was now able to clamp the plywood securely to the LE and the rest with weights and clamps at the rear spars .












About the holes in the webbing; in hindsight, it would have been better to place the Bowden cable behind the main spar in its entirety and to turn the bellcrank around !
Where the aileron control is passing the webbing, I widened the spar, the webbing is complete,, not perfect, but acceptable,
I glued plywood webbing also to the rear spar and on both sides of the main spar..









Now it was time for the top sheeting. This was done in the same way as the bottom sheeting. The building supports at the rear of the ribs, together with weights, ensured that the wing was nice and flat.





After drying, the wing is very stiff and torsion-resistant. The front edge is nice and straight and the sheeting fits the ribs well .

I go on with the Hjordis,

After the wing was sheeted, it feels pleasantly sturdy and very torsionally stiff. Now the ailerons. To get them torsionally stiff enough, I wanted to make a small D box from the round nose, together with the beams and webbing. First I bent a strip of 0.6 plywood around something 6mm round. Slowly, constantly pouring boiling water over, then it will work.





with clamps and let it dry for a day. Then I was able to clamp this plywood "gutter" around the beam of the aileron, between 10 x 10mm slats to keep it straight. Sounds complicated, but it is not.









Then I could run cyano in it





To keep it simple, the lengths of these gutter can’t be too long, The second "gutter" joined with an scarfed joint. After hardening I cut away the excess plywood





Back to the wing itself, the capstrips on the rear of the ribs. To get a good transfer of the capstrip to the sheeting I glued short pieces of 1 X 1mm on the joint (the glue was still wet)






Almost finished













One wing now weighs 506 grams.

Yes it feels just rigid enough. Calcullongeron says it could withstand 20G. That should be enough!

The Hjordis is now making good progress. Spent an afternoon preparing all the actuation rods . I sheeted the wing center section and made a hatch in it, to get to the connections. I also made a bust for the pilot, because of the lipo it couldn't fit a complete pilot.













The clothes and the head will come later. It's sunny, so I went outside to take pictures. I put the motor in so I could mount the prop properly. Luckily the prop blades closed smooth to the fuselage! That made me happy.






























I thought the model looked quite like the real thing, The prop will sprayed the same colour as the fuselage, hopefully they will stand out less.

Now it has to be sanded and finished.

The pilot hasn't got broad shoulders, he will get a big head and the plane is very narrow!





He can just turn his head in the canopy . The openings for his shoulders were cut out later, he got cramp!

Sanding and finishing, a tedious job, always reveals the imperfections, you start to see things you didn't see before....
I did make a kind of handle on the fuselage, so that it could be sprayed in 1 go.









To do something else than sanding and spraying, I made a partial pilot, partial because of the battery box. His shoulders should really protrude beyond the fuselage! A balsa puppet with “clothes” glued on and a head that I had left over from another glider.




All components are now ready for putting the Diacov on.

Sheeting with Diacov (that I had lying around) was done quickly, I had just enough.





Setting up the transmitter also went smoothly.
I had calculated the CG with E calc and I had to add between 50 and 150gr of lead in the nose. I don't want to start the first flight with the most rearward (calculated) CG. I was able to make a hole in that former next to the battery box (left in the photo) and glued 50gr of lead in it.

Then I could close up another 100 gr lead, so that I can make the first flight with a forward CG.






























In this photo it is clear that the tip is wider than the original.





He is ready to fly, now waiting for a good opportunity. ..


Some numbers;
Wingspan is 315cm, weight 2500gr
CG is 7.4 -8.4 cm from the LE. Total wing surface is 52.82 dm2, complete weight is 2500 gr, that gives a wingload of 47.4gr dm2

Today it had its maiden. Raymond (Fotor) made a video, we did only 3 flights, I liked to change some throws and mixers in my transmiter at home.
