A tempate is used to trim the frame to the correct height...

Before I can go any further, I must make up the tool to form the canopy...

Blue foam plates make up the bulk of the former

Now the foam is covered with brown parcel tape...

Then, two layers of chopped mat fibreglass with polyester resin

The whole thing is then filled and sanded down...

The canopy former is ready to go to the vacform company, so now it's back to the canopy frames...

The joints are reinforced with 1mm piano wire

I follow youir building closely, as useal quick and great, but one question!
I do not understand why ?, you put some tape on the canopy former , before the the fiber glass? [humm]

On my Fauvel I did the same method , but without! Confused

It is just a precaution Pat, to prevent the polyester resin from attacking the blue foam... (It might not be a problem with epoxy resin)

The wing spar must be at 90 degrees to the fuselage

Then the wing root fairing must be built up

Now the second wing must be aligned with the first

I have decided to try something different in the construction of the ailerons... The aileron shrouds on the wing are made from 1.5mm balsa laminated with 0.75 CTP, with the CTP on the outside. Now, the aileron leading edge is made from a lamination of two lengths of 6mm balsa. The LE is now offered up to the wing for the hinge pilot holes...

Cut-outs and balsa reinforcements for the Robart hinges...

The LE is sanded to a round-edged profile and hinged to the wing...

Wing profile templates are used to set up the aileron ribs...

The aileron TE is made from 2.4mm Spruce and 6mm balsa

We must admit, that styling of the sailplanes was way ahead of all other vehicles in those days.
